Physical Therapy and Conditioning |
|
Physical Therapy addresses pain and limits in range of motion
through the use of individualized stabilization, fitness and exercise
programs, special therapeutic tools such as manual therapy, and
self-management education. Perhaps more significantly, physical
therapy helps each patient restore control in a system where they
often feel a loss of control. Treatment will always include substantial
conditioning and home exercises, and may include the use of heat,
cold and electricity. Successful physical therapy gives patients the
skills they need to modify their own movements and habits, regain
control, and build power and endurance.

Pilates |
|
This popular exercise is used for both injury rehabilitation
and general fitness conditioning. Pilates is a method of
muscular rebalancing and strengthening that begins by
emphasizing deep breathing and "core" abdominal muscles.
Training includes a strengthening plan for the core muscles
outward, resulting in controlled movement. The specialized
equipment is ideal for injuries of the upper back, lower back
and extremities, scoliosis, and postsurgical conditioning. It
can also be used for full-body strengthening.

Massage Therapy |
|
Massage is an ancient healing art used to increase blood
circulation for tissue healing and nutrient restoration,
and to promote relaxation. In addition to traditional massage,
Healthwell offers Myofascial Release, a sophisticated version of
massage that is especially helpful for complex pain syndromes and
overuse injuries.

Feldenkrais Method® |
|
Feldenkrais is a real-time exploration of movement, enabling
individuals to better understand how they move and movement's
influence on the sensory processes in the brain. Through Feldenkrais,
patients discover their unique abilities and limitations, and in the process,
generate more effortless movement. Feldenkrais increases ease and
range of motion, and improves flexibility and coordination. This reeducation
of self-use improves the efficiency and effectiveness of movement, helps to
avoid injury, and optimizes confident performance. Patients can experience
Feldenkrais in two ways: one-on-one sessions with the therapist called
Functional Integration® or in a group
setting called Awareness Through Movement®
Classes. Healthwell offers both Feldenkrais options. Our Feldenkrais staff
members have all completed a 4-year course of study to become Guild Certified
Feldenkrais Practitioners.

Manual Therapy |
|
Manual Therapy involves gentle manipulation of the bones,
including osteopathic techniques such as Craniosacral Therapy (CST).
Based upon the work of John Upledger D.O., Craniosacral Therapy
promotes deep relaxation within the body by balancing body fluids
and therapeutic pulses that can be disrupted with injury. CST is
particularly valuable for migraine headaches, trauma associated
with whiplash injuries, and skeletal imbalance.
