What can cause chronic or "persistent" pain?
|
|
A myriad of factors can cause persistent pain. Neurological irritability and sensory imprecision.
Skeletal degenerative changes. Soft tissue trauma. Postsurgical complications. Overuse or underuse
syndromes. Sometimes it is trauma where scar tissue affects a nerve, or a muscle doesn't have the
length it needs for easy movement. Pain may be "compensatory" when an injury somewhere else in
the body throws off the mechanics of smooth movement. Pain often accompanies hypermobility syndrome,
or double-jointedness. Women in particular, often have "too much" flexibility and can injure themselves
because they can't control small movements, and require core awareness and conditioning. Persistent
pain can also result from a combination of unique events that don't necessarily show up on x-rays or
diagnostic testing, but are related to neurological movement patterns that are familiar to Healthwell's
staff of specialists.

Which therapies are used?
|
|
|
Chronic pain and neurological conditions require an approach to care as
unique and individual as your fingerprint. It is often a result of miscommunication
between your physical self, your brain and your environment. Your therapist is a
detective who finds out what the problem is by comparing movement relationships
and recruiting participation by the entire body. Healthwell uses a combination of physicians'
reports, diagnostic findings, and rehabilitative therapies to design a unique solution for
each patient whether is be chronic pain, persistent pain or neurological conditions.
These therapies may include:
